Like many others, I never tire of watching Susan's videos. Watching audition 1 and others I am struck by the response of the younger people; watch the BGT tour videos and hear the young people shouting her name and acknowledging Susan's preformance is so refreshing. Even my daughter stated "She just stands there and sings, no act or weird getups; and yes my daughter loves her too. What do we offer Susan for a birthday gift when she gives the best gift, herself and that voice....just LOVE!!!!!

I think it would be very difficult to award Susan Boyle 1st considering she sang the same song (along with a few other finalists) she did in her audition. She is good, but with an act like Diversity, she pales in comparison. Took a lot more effort to do what they did than to sing the same damn song again which is what she, shaheen, and 2 Grand did.

@datdude131432 Simon probably guessed that she was going to sing because she has a boom mike. Only singers who move a lot would use one. (Others would use a lapel mike, which isn't as good quality.) He was probably thinking, "If she doesn't sing, she's toast." He knows the song--that's where the vocals start. OTOH, it WAS a shock to hear that voice coming from a TINY 10yo. (Hollie is quite small for her age.)

@stad97 BGT tried 4 judges for one set of auditions in 2009, the first bunch in Manchester. After that, they decided that it wasn't working, so Kelly Brook was "fired." (It was said that she received her entire fee.) The dancing bit was probably her mother's idea to surprise the judges. Hollie later said that she had wanted to wear a pretty dress. (She got to do just that in the semifinal & final.)

@AcrylicOnion In 2009, about 200 people "got through to the next round"--i.e., they got at least 2 yeses. However, only 40 were in the semifinals. The yeses were only the first step, not a guarantee of being in the semifinals. There's a clip where the judges tell everyone who got through whether they would be in the semifinals. A lot of good acts didn't make it; a lot did.
