Suggestions for Cleaning Your Carpets

By: Colleen Weathersen

A professional carpet cleaner takes steps to insure your carpet is cleaned as thoroughly as possible. A meticulous vacuuming removes most of the loose particles of dirt from the carpet. To remove soil from the fibers of your carpet, a cleaner is to be used, and then wet vacuuming and rinsing methods are used to extract the soil from the fibers. Professionals can easily lift dirt out of the carpet by using very hot water. This works well for removing stubborn stains from your carpet that a regular cleaning cannot remove.

You will need to give your carpet time to dry after cleaning it. Try not to walk on your carpet before it has fully dried. If you walk on a carpet that is still damp, you can grind in dirt and debris before it has had a chance to dry. You could even slip and fall on the carpet if you do not give it adequate time to dry. A professional carpet cleaner helps to avoid such problems. A professional can explain how to properly care for your drying carpet, and can also tell you the best ways to maintain your newly cleaned carpet. Dirt can rise to the surface of the carpet when it is cleaned, so you should vacuum the carpet after it has dried. It will also keep your carpet from getting matted up and becoming distorted. You can give your carpet a nice even appearance by vacuuming it.

The carpet underneath furniture may require extra attention to get an even appearance. Heavy furniture can press carpet down giving the carpet an uneven look. This can usually be corrected with a light brushing. It is easy to determine how often your carpets should be professionally cleaned. Most households should have their carpets cleaned by a professional at least once per year, but some carpets may need more frequent cleaning. Many things can affect the frequency of cleaning, such as pets or a high traffic area. Every household will have a slightly different carpet maintenance schedule.

Keeping your carpet as clean and dry as possible prevents mold from growing. Mold will usually only grow on carpet if it somehow gets wet or damp. Try not to do this if you can. Keeping the carpet dry is the best way to prevent mold growth. Drying time is about six to eight hours for freshly cleaned carpet. The shortest drying time is preferred. Good air flow will shorten the drying time.
