Medical Practice Management Software

By: Jason Luke

The world is regularly changing and adapting as fresh technology is regularly being discovered and new ideas are being executed. EMR software has become critical for use in the healthcare industry. This article will help you understand where the healthcare industry is going with medical practice management software in the information era. If we take a look back in history, we find that these new ideas and innovations have sparked a rapid change in the way we do things. These rapid changes are also known as revolutions.

It is worthy to mention the agricultural revolution. It began in Great Britain, and the techniques that were used there begun a revolution of the way farming was done. New advancements were made after the turn of the 18th century in farming. This allowed for better productivity and led the way for the industrial revolution

Jethro Tull made a large contribution to the beginning of this revolution by introducing the seed drill. Other inventions included the iron plough, the threshing machine, (which was invented by Andrew Meikle), and just some vital changes in field crop rotation. Some other developments were also implemented, including selective breeding and enclosure. Enclosure meant that the common fields that were beforehand shared, now became individually owned and operated.

Because of the agricultural revolution, a new revolution begun called the industrial revolution. It began in Great Britain, and there are many reasons historians say as to why it began there. Some say because of the geography and location, others because of the increased population of the workforce in that area. Either way, it begun and factories started emerging everywhere. This gave way to the rise of the era of information, which is the subject of this article.

For the past 27 years we have been living in a thrilling age, the age of information. Has it ever been so simple to transfer and receive information? Thanks to the internet, cell phones, pagers, television, and new advancements in radio, one can find and distribute nearly any information he or she desires. With all these advancements, information technology has become important to the growth of many industries and new companies. One good example is in the finance industry. Spending there is much higher than that of the healthcare industry. They use information technology extensively, and usually spend up to ten percent of their gross revenue on it. Compare that to the healthcare industry, which only spends about 2% of their gross revenue on implemented information technology.

It is critical to note that for the last 50 or so years, the way medical records are made and kept has remained unchanged. There seems to be much room for improvement in the healthcare industry. Medical practices have much to gain by putting into operation new practice management software, which primarily deals with medical billing, and EMR software which deals with patients' medical records. EMR stands for electronic medical record. Not only would finding the patients' medical records become quick and easy, they can also be shared among cooperating practicing physicians, pharmacies and hospitals. These records have become secure as banking records to ensure that the security of patients' medical records is not jeopardized. New advancements have also allowed for more interoperability between providers for EMR systems.

Information technology is continually moving forward and is becoming more prevalent in the healthcare industry. The future has much in store for the industry, and electronic medical records are definitely going to be apart of it. Many hospitals already have them in place. Next time you have to call one, the wait to find all your records can be drastically reduced and hospitals will be able to provide for their patients in a timely manner. Practice management software will also benefit every medical practice to organize all of their billing information and help them better aid their patients.
